Governance

St Mary’s is the ancient parish church of Walthamstow but works with two other local churches as part of a Team Ministry.

St Mary’s, St Gabriel’s and St Luke’s make up the Parish of Walthamstow, which is in the Diocese of Chelmsford in the Church of England

All three churches are collectively governed by the Parochial Church Council (PCC) of the Parish of Walthamstow, which is composed of representatives from across the churches.

Clergy are automatically members of the PCC, as are each individual church’s churchwardens (senior lay leaders elected to their offices at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting).

Other members are parishioners who stand for election to the PCC and are voted in at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting.

The PCC makes strategic and financial decisions for the Parish and meets throughout the year.

Despite a single PCC, the three churches in our Parish largely make their own day-to-day decisions, and each retains its own individual church culture and ministries while working together wherever possible. The nationally registered charity name of St Mary’s, St Gabriel’s and St Luke’s is ‘the Parochial Church Council of the Ecclesiastical Parish of Walthamstow’, and the Parish’s nationally registered charity number is 1132391.

Financial reports and other information about the Parish can be accessed via the Charity Commission website here
