Advent Sunday (29/11)

Welcome to our online Sunday Service for 29th November. Today, we celebrate the beginning of a new church year as we enter the season of Advent – a time of longing and expectation as we await the birth of Jesus and the festival of Christmas.

During these next four weeks, our worship seeks to help us stay alert and watchful for the coming (‘adventus’ in Latin) of Jesus – both at Christmas and at the end of time – and to prepare ourselves in this season; in the Orthodox Church, they even refer to Advent as ‘little Lent’.

Today’s service is led by Revd Vanessa Conant with a sermon from Natalie Burwell, scripture readings from Josh Price and Fiona Lundie-Smith, prayers and intercessions from our ordinand, Jacintha Danaswamy, Advent music from Jonathan and Helen Rathbone, and a special interview with Jacintha about our exciting ‘Organising for Growth’ project.

While you can watch our pre-recorded service whenever is convenient for you by clicking here, we’ll also be streaming the service live to our Facebook page at 10.30am, with some portions of the service pre-recorded, others delivered live. To join us live at 10.30am, please click here.

We also have another online family and children’s service this week, with games, stories, songs and activities. Our children’s ministry team do an incredible job putting these services together, and we really encourage you to use this with your children – or to pass it along to families you think might find it helpful. Access this week’s children’s service by clicking here.

This being Advent, we are starting up our choir again – albeit virtually – and everyone is invited to join. To learn how you can participate, click here.

Finally, donations are our primary source of income and help us serve each other and all of Walthamstow; if you would like to give a one-time gift, or set up a standing order, you can do so securely and in seconds here.
