Baptism of Christ (10/1)

As we journey through the season of Epiphany, today we celebrate the Baptism of Christ, remembering how Jesus enters the waters of baptism in the river Jordan and the Holy Spirit descends on him, with a voice from heaven saying, “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

We explore the meaning and hope of this moment together in an online service led by Revd Vanessa Conant, with a sermon from Revd Adam Childs, music from Jonathan and Helen Rathbone, scripture readings from Charnelle Barclay and Pam Stone and prayers from Jacintha Danaswamy.

Today’s service also features an interview with Sue Peacham about our Christians Against Poverty Centre, which helps people to get out of debt and find freedom. Join us for today’s pre-recorded service whenever is convenient by clicking here, or join us on Facebook at 10.30am as we broadcast the service live, with some portions delivered live, others pre-recorded.

We also offer a brilliant online service for families and children every week, and if you’re a parent, we really encourage you to use this with your children or to pass it along to those who might find it useful. The service features songs, games, activities and a story from the Bible.

You can access our children’s service here.

Finally, donations are our primary source of income and have been especially crucial over these past ten months as we have been unable to gather in person in our normal way, and currently not at all. To make an online donation to St Mary’s, securely and in seconds, click here.
