On Sunday 30 January, we’ll celebrate Candlemas with a special 4pm service and two morning services: a 9am Holy Communion and a 10.30am Holy Communion, both in the Welcome Centre and both led by Revd Vanessa Conant with a sermon from Revd Jide Macaulay.
We’ll also gather at 4pm for a special family-friendly Candlemas service in the Welcome Centre car park with hot chocolate, mulled wine, prayers, singing and a blessing of the candles. The service will last about 40 minutes, and all are welcome.
Candlemas is the Sunday that we mark the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:22-40), remembering how Jesus is the Light of the World, or as Simeon proclaimed, “a light for revelation to the Gentiles and the glory of your people Israel.”
On Candlemas, we bless and light candles as a symbol of the light of Christ, and as a prayer that Jesus would fill our world with light. We hope to see you this Sunday at St Mary’s as we celebrate this special festival together.
