As the hot, dry weather continues, we will focus on keeping alive the big-ticket items, like small trees and shrubs. Selective and thoughtful watering will need to be the way forward for the foreseeable future.
As the hot, dry weather continues, we will focus on keeping alive the big-ticket items, like small trees and shrubs. Selective and thoughtful watering will need to be the way forward for the foreseeable future.
A very hot week, great for summer fetes, barbeques and playing in the fountains. Much of the remaining green in the churchyards will brown off this week, leaving various shades of brown and yellow as the prevailing colour.

This week, we will engage in grassland management, just as the meadow grasses are at their best.
Whether you are a keen gardener or a complete beginner, you are welcome to take part in St Mary’s Sunflower-growing Competition!
We have completed our major tree planting now, with the addition of a second Walnut in the older churchyard. It will not be until the end of April until we can be sure of success, but we are hopeful.
As the storms subside, we are left with some tidying up. A big Ash bough fell in Vinegar Alley and will be sawn-up to add to the “Wall of Wood” down there. Other woody debris will be collected too.
This week, we are focused on planting some big stuff. We have been offered a Walnut tree, which will be a fine addition to the Old Yard, if it transplants successfully.
As the scaffolding and building work gets into high gear, we have been busy finding other places for the plants we have. It is exciting, if a bit tiring, making new beds.
