Holy Week and Easter 2019

Join us this April at St Mary’s for Holy Week and Easter.

Our special services begin on Monday 15 April, 7.30pm, with Stations of the Cross as we explore the passion story. The Stations of the Cross will be guided by our rector, Revd Vanessa Conant, and will last about an hour.

On Tuesday 16 April, 7.30pm, we’ll have silent prayer – an hour of stillness in our candlelit church as we meditate on events that led to the crucifixion.

On Wednesday 17 April, 7.30pm, we’ll have a Tenebrae Service where we’ll re-tell the entire story of Jesus’s final week, with the church becoming progressively darker as the story progresses, ending in complete darkness.

On Thursday 18 April, 7.30pm, we’ll share a meal at our partner church, St Gabriel’s, on Havant Rd near Wood Street. Bring food to share; we’ll then pray together after our meal to ready ourselves for Good Friday.

On Good Friday, 19 April, we’ll have three services: a ‘Messy Good Friday’ service at 9.30am for families and children featuring breakfast, crafts and the Good Friday story. At 12pm, we’ll have a ‘Watch at the Cross’ – a three-hour time of stillness and prayer. Come for as much or as little of that time as you’d like. And then at 7.30pm, we’ll have a reflective evening service led by Revd Vanessa Conant featuring poetry and music.

On Saturday 20 April, join us at 9.30pm for our Easter Vigil – the ‘Space Between’ – where we’ll ‘wait at the tomb’ for Easter Sunday. The Easter Vigil will be led by our curate, Revd Adam Childs.

On Easter Sunday, we’ll celebrate with three services: a 6.30am Sunrise Service led by our partner church St Luke’s and held on the Walthamstow Market Square; an 8am Holy Communion service at St Mary’s; and a 10.30am all-age communion service – a joyful celebration for the whole community.
