Banns of Marriage

Congratulations on your engagement! If you live in Walthamstow but are getting married in a different church, you will still need to have your banns read here.

There are a number of parish churches in the Walthamstow area. To find out which parish you live in, use this online tool from the Church of England.

If you are in the parish of St Mary’s, we will be delighted to read your banns. We do that on three consecutive Sundays in the three months leading up to your wedding. Once your banns have been read, we will provide you with a certificate which you need to take with you to the church where you are getting married.

We read the banns of marriage at our 10.30am service and you are very welcome to join us to hear them read although there is no obligation – we know that planning a wedding takes lots of time. Our administrator will notify you of the dates and we would love to welcome you to St Mary’s on any or all of those Sundays.

You may be offered marriage preparation by the church in which you are getting married. You are also very welcome to join us for our free marriage preparation course which we offer every year to local couples. Our office will advise you of the dates of our next marriage preparation course.

If you would like to have your banns read in St Mary’s, please complete this form as soon as possible and our Parish Administrator will be in touch with you.

If we can support you in any way as you prepare for marriage, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
