Welcome to our online Sunday Service for 23rd May, Pentecost Sunday. Today, we celebrate the birth of the church and the coming of the Holy Spirit, remembering that day in Jerusalem when a multi-cultural crowd could suddenly understand one another (“each one heard their own language being spoken”, Acts 2:6) and 3,000 people were baptised.
Today we pray, “Come, Holy Spirit,” asking for a spirit of unity, love and understanding this Pentecost. Our service is led by Revd Dave Edmondson, with a sermon from Revd Adam Childs, scripture readings from Charnelle Barclay and Fiona Lundie-Smith, prayers from Cameron Conant and special musical arrangements from Jonathan Rathbone.
This Pentecost, we will also be giving thanks for Revd Adam Childs, who today finishes his curacy in our Parish and will be taking up an interim role with All Saints Church, Leyton. We’ve been thankful to have Adam and his wife Becky and their sons Seth and Jonah with us, and are pleased to know they will be close by for at least the next few months.
While you can watch our pre-recorded Pentecost service whenever is convenient for you by clicking this link, you are also invited to join us at 10.30am this morning as we live-stream the service to our Facebook page, with some portions of the service delivered live, others pre-recorded. You don’t need a Facebook account to join us at 10.30am, just click here.
We also have another brilliant service for children and families this week, with games, activities, songs and teaching. To access this week’s children’s service, click here.
Finally, donations are our primary source of income and help us to serve each other and all of Walthamstow. You can give securely and in seconds to St Mary’s today by clicking here.
