St Mary’s and the Parish of Walthamstow are pleased to announce the appointment of Revd Alan Moss as Lead Pioneer Minister, working especially on the Drive, Attlee Terrace and Prospect Hill estates.
Funded by the Church of England’s Church Commissioners – and working in partnership with the Centre for Theology and Community, Citizens UK and St Mary’s Walthamstow – this innovative church-planting project will utilise the practices and principles of community organising to empower residents on these estates to take action on the things that matter to them in order to create positive, meaningful change. As part of this process, Alan will help residents make the connection between faith and action, demonstrating the ways in which faith-based organising can transform lives and neighbourhoods.
Alan will be working with our church-planter, Charnelle Barclay, and Buxton intern, Josh Price.
Alan and his wife, Sarah, join us in Walthamstow after Alan’s three-year Church of England curacy at the Parish of St James and St John’s, Collier Row. Alan brings a wealth of experience to this new role, having planted a church for young people in the centre of Romford alongside supporting the Diocese of Chelmsford in its development of digital expressions of church. Alan also has a background in welding, a love of tattoos and a passion for sharing the Christian story in new ways.
Sarah is a Church of England ordinand at Trinity College, Bristol, but will be based in E17 and involved in our Parish life as part of her training. Sarah has worked for years in Community Development, specifically within Local Government.
Alan – who holds a BA in Youth Ministry and an MA in Christian Leadership from St Mellitus College – will be licensed on 5th May 2021 at 2pm on Zoom (to which everyone is invited – details forthcoming) and we look forward to welcoming Alan and Sarah to Walthamstow!
