Community Organising

St Mary’s has been involved in Community Organising for over 15 years.

We are members of Citizens UK and are part of the Waltham Forest Citizens Alliance.

We partner with churches, schools, colleges, synagogues, mosques and community groups on projects which serve the Common Good and build our strength as civic institutions.

We work with others to campaign for the living wage, better youth safety, support for refugees and we take action on local issues such as improved lighting in our parks.

Community organising is more than public action; the methods and techniques of organising also shape our life as a church and help us live out our faith as Christians. We are proud to be affiliated with the Centre for Theology and Community – a group of UK churches which use community organising as an approach to church growth and community building.

Locally, St Mary’s leads the Just Transition campaign, exploring how community groups can use their buildings for renewable energy and climate solutions by accessing funding and advice to install solar panels, insulation and heat pumps.

Through our Citizens UK membership and partnership with the Centre for Theology and Community, we regularly offer training in the methods of community organising. If you would like more information about our campaigns, or would like to learn more about community organising, please email .
