Holy Week & Easter 2023

Join us for Holy Week and Easter 2023 at St Mary’s and in the Parish of Walthamstow.

Holy Week is a chance for us to enter into the final week of the life of Jesus Christ as he arrives in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday – greeted as a hero – and is later betrayed, sentenced to death and executed like a common criminal, only to rise again, days later.

Holy Week also includes activities for children and young people, including an Easter Egg Hunt and Drop-In Gaming from 2-5pm at St Mary’s on Tuesday 4 April.

On Wednesday 5 April at 7.30pm, join us at St Mary’s for our dramatic Tenebrae service (‘shadows’ in Latin) which will include music and scripture readings.

On Thursday 6 April at 7.30pm, St Gabriel’s (near the corner of Wood Street and Havant Road) will host a Maundy Thursday Holy Communion.

And on 7 April, Good Friday, there will be three opportunities to gather, with a ‘Messy’ Good Friday Service for children and families at St Mary’s at 10am, a Good Friday ‘Watch at the Cross’ from 12-3pm at St Gabriel’s, and an evening Good Friday service at St Mary’s at 7.30pm.

On Easter Sunday, we’ll celebrate with three services at St Mary’s: a Sunrise Service and Prayer Walk at 6.15am; an Easter Sunday Holy Communion at 9am; and an Easter Sunday Family Communion at 10.30am.
